So Too Either Neither - so do I

“So do I” is used in response to a positive sentence that is also true for me. In this example, Punch likes the subject called Language and this is also true for Picha so she can reply “So do I”. Notice that this is in the present tense and that these are verbs that are not verb ‘to be’.

So did I

“So did I” is used in response to a positive sentence that is also true for me. In this example, Punch went to school yesterday and this is also true for Picha so she can reply “So did I”. Notice that this is in the past tense and that these are verbs that are not verb ‘to be’.

So am I

“So am I” is used in response to a positive sentence that is also true for me. In this example, Punch is bored and this is also true for Picha so she can reply “So am I”. Notice that this is in the present tense and that these are verbs that are verb ‘to be’.

Neither do I

“Neither do I” is used in response to a negative sentence that is also true for me. In this example, Punch doesn’t like the school subject Math and this is also true for Picha so she can reply “Neither do I”. Notice that this is in the present tense, that these are verbs that are not verb ‘to be’ and that it is negative.

Neither did I

“Neither did I” is used in response to a negative sentence that is also true for me. In this example, Punch didn’t like the school subject Math last year and this is also true for Picha so she can reply “Neither did I”. Notice that this is in the past tense, that these are verbs that are not verb ‘to be’ and that it is negative.

Neither am I

“Neither am I” is used in response to a negative sentence that is also true for me. In this example, Punch is not bored and this is also true for Picha so she can reply “Neither am I”. Notice that this is in the present tense, that these are verbs that are verb ‘to be’ and that it is negative.

So do I / I do too / Me too

“So do I / I do too / Me too” are used in response to a positive sentence that is also true for me. In this example, Punch likes the school subject Language and this is also true for Picha so she can reply “So do I / I do too / Me too”. Notice that this is in the present tense, that these are verbs that are not verb ‘to be’ and that it is positive. Also note that you can use any of these answers. Anytime that you can answer “So do I”, you could also answer “I do too” or “Me too” and they would all be correct.

Neither do I / I don’t either / Me neither

“Neither do I / I don’t either / Me neither” are used in response to a negative sentence that is also true for me. In this example, Punch doesn’t like the school subject Math and this is also true for Picha so she can reply “Neither do I / I don’t either / Me neither”. Notice that this is in the present tense, that these are verbs that are not verb ‘to be’ and that it is negative. Also note that you can use any of these answers. Anytime that you can answer “Neither do I”, you could also answer “I don’t either” or “Me neither” and they would all be correct.

Here Picha doesn’t like fish and this is also true for Teacher Jason. Notice this statement is negative, present tense and uses a verb that’s not verb ‘to be’. Can you guess the correct answer?

Correct answer: d) Neither do I.

Here Picha didn’t study English on Saturday and this is also true for Punch. Notice this statement is negative, past tense and uses a verb that’s not verb ‘to be’. Can you guess the correct answer?

Correct answer: a) I didn’t either.
