Adjectives

Adjective – a word that describes a noun or a pronoun. If you are an English ESL teacher looking to teach adjectives, you have come to the right place. We have an interactive PowerPoint presentation to help teach adjectives, an adjective matching memory game with sound, an activity video with a fun choice game, an interactive video, a gameshow quiz much like ‘Who wants to be a Millionaire?’, a hangman game and the always popular whack-a-mole game. We have all these fun interactives in one place. As a teacher, you can teach about adjectives and use any or all of our resources to reinforce the lesson. Your students will love it.

Comparative and Superlative

Now let’s look at comparative and superlative adjectives. First, we’ll look at comparatives. Comparative adjectives compare two things with words like bigger than or more beautiful than. At Sanook English, our team has designed a variety of comparative activities. We have an interactive slideshow similar to a PowerPoint which is great to follow along and teach ESL students about comparatives. We have a comparative adjective guessing game video and we have an interactive video to go with it. Also we have a comparative matching game where images come along on a conveyor belt and students must fill in the blanks.

Here are some comparative examples for smaller words (usually 1 or 2 syllables). We use – adjective + er + than:

  • The cat runs faster than the dog.
  • The elephant is bigger than the mouse.
  • The bully is meaner than nice boy.
  • The ostrich is taller than the hummingbird.

Here are some comparative examples for bigger words (usually 3 or more syllables). We use – more + adjective + than:

  • The butterfly is more beautiful than the cockroach.
  • The mansion is more expensive than the cottage.
  • Star Wars is more interesting than Star Trek.

  • The cheetah is the fastest land animal.
  • The peregrine falcon is the fastest animal.
